OBJECTIVE
Create a wordmark and layout design for an original publication. Develop a strong visual system and use of imagery for the publication cover, table of contents, and a minimum of two spreads of an interview article and feature article.
CONCEPT
Aghast is a smack-in-the-face star, standing up for the freaks, and embracing the art of unconventional makeup styles, leaving people’s heads turning and mouths agape.
Aghast is a magazine about the variety in the alternative makeup community. It will showcase and discuss different types of alternative makeup styles, their histories, makeup tips, and tricks, and feature a variety of alternative makeup artists. Alternative makeup is interesting and fun, but quite shocking at first glance. Within that glance, a glimpse of the history and artistry in the makeup is seen, exposing audiences to a new world.

WORDMARK ITERATIONS
I played with changing the terminals, proximities, edges, widths, x-heights, and capitalizations of many letterforms with different base typefaces to find the perfect wordmark that exudates the bold and outlandishness of Aghast.
FINAL WORDMARK
PAGE ITERATIONS
During my first variation of the magazine, I experimented with different layouts for the table of contents, feature article, interview article, and the cover. I wanted to keep pushing outlandishness in each variation.

PROJECT REVAMP
After working on this project for a semester, I decided to revisit it and create a variation that had more of a scrapbook visual look.
Stay tuned for the final look!
SCRAPBOOK ANIMATED ADVERTISEMENT
I also created an animated advertisement for the magazine with the scrapbook visual identity. The goal of this advertisement was to give viewers a sneak peek at the images that would be featured in the full magazine, encouraging them to read and purchase it when it comes out.
